Honolulu (7/14/10) - The HPU men’s basketball program today announced Nick Frazier, Marcus Lewis, and Michael Pierce as new members of the 2010-11 recruitment class. All three players signed National Letters of Intent and decided to continue their playing careers for the Sea Warriors.
Frazier (6-0, 165 lbs), originally from Sacramento, prepped at North High School in Phoenix before playing two seasons at South Mountain Community College. In his sophomore season, playing mainly as a guard, Frazier averaged 11 points, three assists, and four points per game and shot 48% from the field.
“As a staff, we are excited about the addition of Nick to our program,” said HPU Head Coach Darren Vorderbruegge. “He’s a steady, mature player that will bring leadership qualities and good decision making to our team. He is skilled and athletic.” “Nick’s offensive ability and athleticism set him apart from other guards,” said SMCC Coach Dan Nichols. “He’s got the overall abilities and basketball IQ to excel at the Division II level. A tremendous young man that competes at an intense level.”
Lewis comes to HPU as junior transfer from Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois. Originally from Madison, Illinois, the 6’2 combo guard averaged 12 points and eight rebounds for the Loggers this season. He was one of two LLCC players named All-Midwest Athletic Conference.
“Marcus is a strong combo guard that can slash, get in the paint, and finish at the rim,” complimented Vorderbruegge. “Marcus rebounds and knocks down the mid range jumper with consistency, and his physical gifts will allow him to succeed in the PacWest.”
Pierce (6-2, 165 1bs) joins the Sea Warriors fresh off a successful career at Mater Dei High School in California. He was a key fixture in Mater Dei’s rotation, helping his team to the CIF Southern Section Division 1AA Title. “Michael is an excellent shooter with range that will allow us to stretch out the defense,” said Vorderbruegge. “He has played against top notch competition in California all throughout the high school ranks. What caught our eye was his intensity on defense, as our system is built on the foundation of defense and energy and Michael exudes both qualities. We are excited to watch Michael develop in our program.”
